TERRA VERDE ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT TO ABA COMMITTEE
Senior Risk Consultant Appointed Vice Chair of ABA EDDE Committee
PHOENIX, AZ - NOVEMBER 3, 2010 - Terra Verde Services announced today that Hoyt Kesterson, a senior consultant with the firm, was appointed Vice Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) E-Discovery and Digital Evidence (EDDE) Committee, a committee of which Mr. Kesterson was a founding member in 2008. The EDDE committee provides education, resources, and a forum for discussion for those interested in both the legal aspects and business impacts of E-Discovery and Digital Evidence.
The goal of the EDDE committee is to address issues associated with evidence in digital form. Although paper records have existed for centuries and we know how to store and retrieve them, we rarely need sophisticated techniques to judge the authenticity of those records, but instead rely on easily visible physical attributes, such as an impression in that paper, to indicate an original signature.
Mr. Kesterson's key contribution to this committee will be a continued quest in discovering how technology and IT governance can provide digital evidence that is accurate and authenticable. Mr. Kesterson stated, "For a long time I've been interested in the problem of how a business can produce electronic records that can be presented as accurate, authentic, and unchanged from the time of their creation. I believe that with proper information governance this can be the normal mode for a business, not just an expensive one-time exercise, in response to a legal dispute."
Cindy Donaldson, partner and co-director of Information Risk Management for Terra Verde Services stated, "Hoyt's experience and expertise protecting information over several decades is unmatched, and his ability to stay on the cutting edge of managing risk is demonstrated by his latest appointment to the ABA."
Mr. Kesterson has over 40 years of experience. He has chaired several international standardization committees producing fundamental standards that are at the heart of deployed directory services, and the public key infrastructure (PKI) that supports SSL and digital signatures. For digital signature, encryption, and associated security areas such as privacy, he has worked with the American Bar Association, international, federal, and state agencies, and within industry sectors such as banking and healthcare, leading to the adoption of laws and regulations, e.g. E-sign, and HIPAA.
